NIPA Members Provide Expert Evidence to Parliament on National Infrastructure Planning Policy
Date: 10 September 2025
On 10 September, two members of the National Infrastructure Planning Association (NIPA) gave expert evidence to separate UK Parliamentary Select Committees, reinforcing NIPA’s commitment to shaping national infrastructure planning policy through informed, evidence-based dialogue.
Energy Security and Net Zero Committee
Catherine Anderson represented NIPA at the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, presenting our response to the Call for Evidence on the draft National Policy Statement (NPS) EN-7: New Nuclear Generation. Catherine highlighted NIPA’s view that the NPS needs to be drafted in a way that accommodates rapid technological advancements in the nuclear sector, and recognises scale and proportionality in both gigawatt and modular scale nuclear energy deployment. This approach would ensure the policy remains fit for purpose and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Transport Committee
Robbie Owen appeared before the Transport Committee to discuss the proposed amended National Policy Statement for Ports. While NIPA welcomes the updates that reflect recent developments in the sector and more widely since the NPS was designated in 2012, Robbie outlined several concerns regarding the detail of the proposed amended NPS and provided recommendations for the Committee’s consideration.
