Defra’s recent Nature Recovery Green Paper proposals to reform the legal regime for protected sites and species represent an opportunity not just to promote nature recovery but also to reduce regulatory burden and deliver the levelling-up agenda more effectively by facilitating the infrastructure consenting process.

NIPA is supportive of the use of the planning system to promote and support appropriate nature conservation and recovery. However, this would benefit from being set within a clear deliverable framework.
