NIPA Annual General Meeting 2016
July 15, 2016
NIPA held its AGM at King & Wood Mallesons in London on 12 May, thank you to them for hosting the event. Steven Norris, chair of NIPA’s Council, presided. I gave a short summary of the year in NIPA and in infrastructure planning more generally., which is attached. Having tackled NIPA’s governance following the paper agreed at last year’s AGM, I undertook to focus on member communications and involvement this year. An interesting discussion followed on matters such as relations with overlapping organisations such as the MPA, CPA and PEBA.
The accounts were approved, and have yielded a considerable surplus. It was agreed to put this towards two initiatives: a research programme, for which the first topic would be whether there is an issue with lack of flexibility of DCOs, and a bursary programme to encourage papers from young professionals and new entrants in infrastructure-related professions. On the subject of younger, or more recent, infrastructure professionals, the AGM received a paper proposing a young members’ champion on NIPA’s Board, which it was agreed the Board should consider in conjunction with separate proposals for a younger members’ group.
